Software Sales Representative

HistoryIT is seeking a tenacious Sales Representative to serve as a key member of the sales team, reporting directly to the Chief Sales Officer.

The Sales Representative develops new prospects and interacts with existing customers to increase sales of Odyssey Preservation System, HistoryIT’s proprietary software. It is his/her responsibility to represent the company, and all product offerings, to prospective customers across the United States via phone, email, webinar, in person and by conducting presentations. The company is headquartered in Portland, ME, with outposts in Chicago, Indianapolis and Pittsburgh. However, the employee in this role may work remotely, as long as they reside near a major U.S. airport.

This is an intermediate position with the potential to make an immediate and significant impact on company revenue. The ideal candidate is comfortable with and ready to support all stages of the sales process:

  • Prospecting and lead generation
  • Presenting HistoryIT software
  • Opportunity management and persuasive communication
  • Negotiation and operations hand-off
  • Account review and renewal


Position Specific

  • One to four years of experience with sales (SaaS or other software sales preferred)
  • Demonstrable track record of over-achieving quota
  • Familiarity with Customer Relationship Management Systems
  • Ability to quickly learn new software systems and processes
  • A self-starter that enjoys working with people in a team capacity and independently
  • Organizational skills and the ability to multitask
  • Capable of analyzing and interpreting data
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; a conversational and professional demeanor
  • An appreciation for the importance of historical preservation
  • Enthusiastic dedication to meeting and exceeding established goals
  • A tenacious attitude

  • Employee’s primary duty must be making sales
  • Present, promote and sell HistoryIT software products using persuasive communication that helps prospective customers solve problems and achieve goals
  • Schedule and host customer product demonstrations of HistoryIT software (live and web-based)
  • Using typical and creative methods, develop prospect lists
  • Educate prospects about digital preservation and create urgency that converts contacts to clients
  • Establish, develop and maintain positive business and customer relationships through webinars, blog content and attendance at industry events
  • Achieve agreed upon sales targets and outcomes at each stage of the sales process within schedule
  • Meet or exceed quarterly sales goals
  • Coordinate sales effort with team members and other departments, especially as it relates to onboarding new clients
  • Supply management with reports on sales performance, customer needs, problems, interests, competitive activities, and potential for new products, services and marketing opportunities
  • Enthusiastically seek personal and company feedback from teammates and clients
